So I have been looking into how differnt magazine covers are layed out and evaluating what I think was successful and unsuccessful and I though I would share this research on here.
Overall I think think that this magazine cover is very successful due to the bright cover which really makes it stand out. I think they have used quite an interesting format for the cover, not having the text at the side and having the image as the focus. They chose to have information at the bottom which I think is very affective as it stands out in its own way not drawing attention away from the image and not covering to much for the focus. One thing that I think isn’t as successful is the way the title is layered over the image. As the photo has so much going on with bright colours, the title being coloured makes it blend in and is not the first thing you notice when looking at the cover. I think that as this is such a popular magazine the fact that you cant see the total as clear isn’t really an issue as people would still look for it as the imagery really stands out against other magazines. As the cover is so simple with minimal writing it looks quite different form the other magazines making it a successful cover.
For this magazine cover they have layer it out in quite a typical way making it look simian to other magazines. One thing that I think is successful is how much the model stands out on the cover, making it the focus, it really draws attention to the model which also distracts form the information on the cover. They have used a contrasting colour agains the background for the title which also links in with the image of the model with I think is very successful. Something that I think is unsuccessful is how the cover is layer out, there is a lot of information in the cover which really distracts from the image and sort of blurs what you see first. Some of the text I think is irrelevant especially as it is quite a well known magazine as it clutters the cover where as it may have been more successful if they made it more simple as this would make it stand out from other magazines. I also think they could have arranged the information better on the front cover as they have covered up the title with the model which makes it hard to read, which could deter some viewers, I feel that the text is very blocky and doesn’t flow as they have used lots of different colours and fonts to draw your eye which actually becomes quite distracting.
I think that this magazine cover is very interesting as it is quite different to the other two. They have played the cover out in a similar way to other magazines where the text is displayed at the side. I think having the text like this is quite unsuccessful as it is quite distracting from the image which should be the main focus. They have also made the information quite small which mades it hard to read, especially from a distance, they have out a lot of information onto this cover which I think is not needed as it makes it look cluttered and I think that some of the information might not be needed. One thing that I do think that is successful with this cover is that the colours they have used is very different, instead of using really bright and vibrant colours to stand out they have used colours of the same tone which work well together and I think this would make it stand out against other magazines.
