Starting my new project - Sustainable fashion

Hello everyone,

So as I discussed in previous posts I have just finished my last project in textiles so over the Christmas break we were tasked to do some research for our next project which is sustainable and Eco fashion.

To start with I chose to create a Pinterest board so that I got an idea of what sustainable fashion was and what sort of things went into it. I also think that this will be helpful later on in the project to give me some more ideas and inspiration.

One of the tasks that we were set to do over Christmas was research into what sustainable fashion is and present it into our sketchbooks. I learnt that sustainable fashion, also known as ethical or Eco fashion, is mainly an umbrella term which describes the different elements that go into making fashion.  This covers lots of different issues in the fashion industry including, working conditions, exploiting fair trade, sustainable production, the environment and animal welfare. Throughout this project I think I am going to be exploring all of these different issues.

Another task that we had to do as part of the research is watch a documentary by Stacy Dooley called fashions dirty secrets, here is the link if you want to watch it, once we had watched the documentary we had to document in our sketchbooks what we found interesting in the show, I chose to do this by taking screen shots of parts of the documentary to give you a visual reference. I found this documentary really interesting as it really gave you a insight into things that you aren't awair about in the fashion industry, for example how much water is used to produce cotton as you think of cotton as being environmentally friendly, where as it actually has a drastic impact on the environment.

Next we needed to document our trip to the V and A museum we went on a while ago and this was just all about the fashioned from nature exhibit the they had, we also used this for our last project however as it links really well with this project we incorporated it in this one as well. I have wrote about this in a previous blog in more detail so go look at that if you are interested.

As well though the Christmas break we were tasked to collect all the rubbish that be would ordinarily through away and this is for us to start off our project with.

I am going to continue to blog about this throughout my project if you would like to see more.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at my work and thank you for reading.
