3D rubbish sculpture

Hello everyone,

So as I said in my last post I talked about how I am starting my new project in textiles, today I had my first lesson back where we were working in this project. I thought I would share what I have done in today’s class.

Over the holiday break we were told to collect lots of rubbish, like paper and packaging and bring it into class. We were not told what we would be doing with this so I kind of just collected any recycling that I liked.

With this rubbish we were creating 3D sculptures, I was really excited to do this as I thought it would be really fun to just experiment with the different textiles and mediums, manipulating them in different ways. I decided to mainly use plastic for my sculpture as I had quite a bit, I also wanted to make it sort of a ball shape as I felt this would work really well.

I started off by cutting and melting different plastics to make lots of different shapes. I found this really interesting as each plastic melted differently and created different textures and shapes. I really liked this technique of melting the plastic and would definitely use it again.

To create the actual sculpture I first scrunched up newspaper to make a base to make the sculpture of off. I then layered my different plastids with papers and other media’s to create a really interesting sculpture with lots of different shapes and textures.

I am really happy with how my 3D sculpture turned out and from this I am going to take pictures off different elements and sections which I will then use to make garnment illustration collages, I am going to share this on my next post.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at my work and thank you for reading.
