Hello everyone,
So after I had finished my wrapping paper section of my project, I started my fabric design part of my project. In this section I had to create 6 differnt fabric designs using differnt patterns and differnt techniques. I chose to use plants as my inspiration for this part of the project and I made a mind map to show what I wanted to incorperate into the fabric designs.
Once I had finished my mind map, I did the same as for the wrapping paper and started off my making some original pattern that I would then make patterns from.
I also experimented with using using heat transfer paints to make my patterns. I did lots of differnt tests with this, including painting the pattern, using collage and layering the paint, and using differnt things to block the paint from transfering.
Now I had made these patterns I experimanted with using differnt medias onto fabric, these experiments would later help me create my final 6 fabric designs by developing my ideas. I started off by using fabric paints. to use these I had to water them down so that they were more runny and easier to use. I also made a stencle and painted it, this made it easy to repeate the pattern lots of times. I did have some issues with doing this as the paint was too watered down so the fabric absorbered it and it spread.
After I had use the fabric paint for these patterns I wanted to develop using it with just one pattern, here I experimented with using differnt utensles to apply the paint and crteate the pattern. I also used differnt things to block the paint from going onto the fabric, such as masking tape and wax.
I wanted to experiment with using ink and bleach to recreate this pattern as well. I used differnt utensles to apply the ink and bleach on top of eachother.
I also experimented with using using heat transfer paints to make my patterns. I did lots of differnt tests with this, including painting the pattern, using collage and layering the paint, and using differnt things to block the paint from transfering.
With this pattern I did lots of differnt experiments with using differnt techniques. I first did the print and this didnt turn out very well so I tryed to print it again using leaves to block the paint from transfering. This print was really successful as the leaves worked well as a block and the paint transfered really vibrant and bright. i also layered the differnt paperes to use collage to make the pattern.
I also experimented with differnt patterns and ways of createing the patterns with transfer paints.
i used hot glue to create textured fabric. i used paint to colour these and treasure gold to make the texture stand out more.
Another technique I used was using plastic and painting onto it and then ironing it onto fabric. I tested out using acrylic and gouache paint to create differnt effects. I preferned how the acrylic paint turned out as I felt it stood out more. I layered differnt pieces of plactics with differnt sections of the pattern on to build up the pattern.
The last technique I used was using bondweb. I used watercolour and acrylic paint to test out wich works the best. I have also sewn into the designs using free machine embroidery to add more detail to the patterns.
All of these differnt tests have helped me to develop my 6 final designs which is the final outcome to this part of the project.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at my work and thank you for reading.
